Born in Salinas, California, I've traveled and moved a lot, 41 times to be exact. My heart is in the little town of Joseph, Oregon though so that's where I call home even though we divide our time between Oregon and Utah right now.
My mom was my inspiration to create. Everything she did, whether it was decorating a birthday cake, or sewing us dresses, she made it a work of art. We colored together, gathered wild flowers and leaves for drying, did bird watching together and had the best rock collection. She taught me to see the beauty of this glorious earth, and to appreciate art and creativity in many forms, music, dance, and good food.
I love working with clay and paper maché. It takes me back to my childhood when we would create animals and dishes and such out of modeling clay. It's fun to see what you can do with a light bulb and some paper maché, or a gourd and some clay. I love painting on canvas as well, using acrylics. I've overcome my fear of the unknown, primarily since I became a member of the Society of Decorative Painters. I've won several ribbons for my work, which has encouraged me to keep trying, learning and growing.
I'm fortunate to belong to both groups associated with American Holiday Artists. I love being a member of AHA! It has helped me tremendously as an artist, to be able to associate with like minded artisans, who love to create holiday art. I am currently a co-leader and feel very honored to be a part of such a fabulous team! My ebay id and etsy id are the same :mothersdreamartworks This is in honor of my mom, who wanted to be a part of an artist community to teach, learn and sell. I'm living her dream.
I'm hoping to create more functional art. I will still be creating my gourd Halloween characters, some will be candy dishes, or canisters. I also want to try a Santa or two in the same vein. I have a design for an ornament box that has been rattling around in the back of my mind for years, and I hope to be able to get that out for my Santa collectors. I've belonged to a couple of groups, and have enjoyed their association, but I've learned more with AHA about how to be a better artist, how to better market my art, how to keep up with the market trends, and have developed some very wonderful friendships. I appreciate that the focus is on art and creativity, and that the other members of our group are so willing to share their expertise. We have to cream of the crop when it comes to holiday artists and I'm thrilled with what they do. This has been such a confidence builder for me. My hats off to all our AHA members, and especially Suzanne and Susan for all their hard work on our behalf.
Who do I contact to join the group?
